Harlem Globetrotters bring ball-handling wizardry to local arena

Harlem Globetrotters bring ball-handling wizardry to local arena this week
The Harlem Globetrotters will play at Bridgeport’s Webster Bank Arena on Thursday, March 19 at 7 p.m.

The famed basketball team will compete against their classic rivals in what is being billed as the Washington Generals Revenge World Tour.

It has been five years since the Globetrotters and Generals have faced off, as the Generals have been searching far and wide for the best players to retool their roster and have been preparing for one thing: Victory over the Globetrotters.

Tickets start at $20 and are available at www.harlemglobetrotters.com, www.ticketmaster.com, the Webster Bank Arena box office, or by phone at 800-745-3000.

Family-friendly antics

This is the 89th consecutive season the Harlem Globetrotters —  known as the Ambassadors of Goodwill — have played in front of audiences all over the world.

Team players are known for their athletic skills, entertainment abilities and family-friendly antics. This includes ball-handling wizardry, rim-rattling dunks, trick shots, hilarious comedy, and fan interaction.

After the game, Globetrotter players will sign autographs and take photos with fans.

Male and female players

Players include Big Easy Lofton, Ant Atkinson, Hi-Lite Bruton, Thunder Law, Bull Bullard, Firefly Fisher and Moose Weekes, plus female stars TNT Maddox, T-Time Brawner and Sweet J Ekworomadu.

Another player, Buckets Blades, is one of four current Globetrotters that holds a world record for breaking the Guinness World Records mark for the most basketball underhanded half-court shots in one minute — dropping six of them.

Honoring a Hometown Hero

In addition to the action on the court, the Globetrotters will honor a Harlem Globetrotters Hometown Hero at each of their 310-plus games in North America, including the one in Bridgeport.

The team is searching for active, wounded or retired military members who have made their community proud with their brave service and exemplary character. Fans can nominate a Harlem Globetrotters Hometown Hero at www.harlemglobetrotters.com.

The Globetrotters will also play a portion of each game with a camouflage basketball as a sign of respect to all who protect the nation’s freedom.
