Health District to offer safety training for temporary food events

Two free temporary food event training sessions focused on food safety will be offered by the Naugatuck Valley Health District (NVHD) at its office, 98 Bank St., Seymour.

The training is recommended for temporary food event operators, food booth operators, food vendors, and event volunteers and staff.

Sessions will take place from 10-11:30 a.m. on Monday, April 27, and from 6-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29. A one-time $10 discount will be applied to each attendee’s first temporary food event application.

The NVHD is the regional public health agency serving Shelton and five nearby towns.

Food safety and protection insight

Topics to be covered at the sessions are food safety and food protection at temporary food events, regulations governing temporary food events, equipment and food-booth set-up, and the local application process and event guidelines.

NVHD officials remind the public that temporary food permits are required for events where food is prepared and served to the public. The training will provide information that will make the permitting process easier and assist participants in making smart decisions regarding food safety and protection.
