Help the Spooner House, other nonprofits on Oct. 2 and 3

Again this year, Spooner House is one of more than 200 organizations taking part in the Greater New Haven Community Foundation’s community-wide giving event, the Great Give 2013 program.

Valley residents' donations are matched

Donors who live or work in the Valley (Shelton, Ansonia, Derby, Oxford and Seymour) will have their donations matched by the Valley Community Foundation, up to $100 per donor, per eligible nonprofit, during the 2013 campaign until the match pool of $20,000 is reached.

The donor must enter in the qualifying Valley address with their credit card information to be counted toward the Valley Gives Prize.

Spooner House serves the Lower Naugatuck Valley as a homeless shelter and food bank. It offers a 36-bed shelter and through the Spooner House Food Bank, more than 6,000 individuals are served. That’s more than 150,000 meals a year, up from 65,000 just four years ago.
