Here are summertime classes at the rec center
Sport conditioning — Strength and conditioning camp designed to provide athletes with an off-season training program. These programs will aide an athlete in improving their strength, speed, agility and flexibility. These physical fitness characteristics will allow the athlete to become better skilled and conditioned for his or her sport, as well as provide injury prevention.
This program will focus on core, balance, flexibility and basic resistant training techniques, along with sport specific skills, which will all combine to improve any athletes of any size, age or sport.
Male and female athletes of any sport from incoming grades 9 to 12 are eligible. Will be held at Shelton High School. Sign up at the Shelton Community Center Parks & Recreation office. Must sign waiver. Runs June 30 to Aug. 14. Girls conditioning — Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, 7:30-9 a.m, $125. Boys conditioning — Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, 9-10:30 a.m. Cost: $125. Cheerleader/Dance Conditioning — Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, 10:30-11:30 a.m., $90.
Rowing — The Shelton Parks & Recreation Department in conjunction with Yale Community Rowing will be offering week-long rowing programs at the Gilder Boathouse, Roosevelt Drive, Derby, on the Housatonic River.
Participants receive instruction on indoor rowing machines then on specially designed training barges used on the water. No prior experience is needed. For information call 203-432-0311.
Times and ages — Ages 10-18, June 30-July 3, Monday–Thursday, 9:15-10 a.m. No charge for the children’s program. Adults, Monday–Friday, July 21-July 25 and July 28 - Aug. 1, 7-8 a.m., $50 registration fee for adults.
Boys and Girls Lacrosse Camps — For those entering grades 2-8. The program will be 8-11 a.m., July 7-10, at the Shelton High School upper field. Friday will be used as a makeup day if needed.
The cost is $100 for residents and $125 for non-residents. Those interested must pre register. Matt Read, the Shelton High boys varsity head coach, will be the director of the camp.
