Yarn outlet

Written Words Bookstore, with the cooperation of leading yarn company Lion Brand, will be organizing a bus trip to visit Lion Brand’s outlet store located at Carlstadt, New Jersey on Sunday, Sept. 28.

Tickets are $25 per person. Reservations and payments in check or cash must be made by Thursday, Sept. 11. Tickets are non-refundable unless the trip is canceled. Bus will leave Shelton at 9 a.m. and return at approximately 5 p.m. Information: 203-944-0400.

Fall fair

The Church of the Good Shepherd, 186 Coram Avenue, hosts annual event, Saturday, Sept. 13, 10-4 p.m. on the church grounds in Shelton. Vendors, crafters and a raffle. A portion of the proceeds from the raffle will go to help the church’s outreach program.

Antique bottle collectors

SCABGCA, a regional antique glass and bottle collectors group, meets Tuesday, Sept. 16, at 6:30 p.m., at Plumb Memorial Library, 65 Wooster Street, Shelton.

Christ Church Tashua Apple Festival

The annual event will be held at 5170 Madison Avenue, Trumbull on Saturday, Sept. 27, 10-5 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 28, 11-4 p.m. It will feature the church’s famous homemade apple pies, baked goods, candy and caramel apples.

There will also be a variety of crafters, a kid’s zone with bounce houses, face painting, games and children’s crafts. Mums will be sold, along with locally grown apples and cider from the fall harvest: pumpkins, gourds, squashes, six varieties of apples and more.

Admission is free. Money raised from the fair will help support the outreach of the church to local community food banks and shelters and completion of the interior of the parish hall. Anyone interested to be a vendor may contact Jody at jjirwin@charter.net or 203-913-2270.

Tag sale and flea market

Held at the First United Methodist Church, Saturday, Oct. 11, 9-6 p.m., in Shelton. Vendor space is available for $20 a table.

The church is located on the corner of Long Hill Avenue and Rocky Rest Road. Proceeds will benefit the ministries of the church. Information: 203-929-3537 or office@umcshelton.org.

Pre-holiday bus trip

Troop 3 Boy Scouts will be hosting a a pre-holiday shopping bus trip to Woodbury Common Premium Outlets in Central Valley, NY.

The Troop is based in Derby, but has Scouts from the area.

On Saturday, Oct. 11, the bus will depart the Derby-Shelton Train Station at 7:45 a.m. Stores at the outlets include Ann Taylor, Armani, Banana Republic and Tommy Hillfiger. Bus returns to the train station for 8 p.m.

Annual church fair

The Trumbull Nichols United Methodist, 35 Shelton Road, will hold its annual church fair on Saturday, Oct. 4, from 9-3 p.m. Homemade lunch, bake sale, cookie walk. Attic treasures booth, dishes, antiques, household items, lots of quilting fabrics and supplies, jewelry, holiday shop, fall mums, books, toys and more.

Craft vendors wanted

Platt Technical High School seeks craft and food truck vendors for its annual fall festival and car cruise fundraiser, Saturday, Oct. 18, 10-3 p.m. at 600 Orange Avenue, Milford. Vendor fee is $50, spaces are limited.

Snowflake Fair

The annual Snowflake Fair in Seymour is set for Saturday, Nov. 22, and craft and specialty vendors are needed.

Cost is $35 for an 8-by-6-foot space, and will be held at the Seymour Congregational Church, 45 Broad Street.

Garden club

The Greater Bridgeport Men’s Garden Club meeting will be held at the Sterling House, 2283 Main Street, Stratford, at 7 p.m. Members meet on the third Wednesday of each month to discuss gardening issues, share in plant swaps, listen to speaker presentations and more.
