Hoptoberfest in Shelton draws a big crowd, should return next fall

The Derby/Shelton Rotary Club’s first-ever Hoptoberfest craft beer festival and chicken wing contest attracted more than 500 people to Shelton’s Riverwalk on the afternoon of Oct. 26. (Photos by Brad Durrell)

Attendees were able to sample 50-plus beers and sample wings from seven restaurants. The Dew Drop Inn in Derby was the winner of the wing competition while Porky’s in Shelton came in second.

Net proceeds from the event will support the local Rotary Club’s college scholarship program, elementary school literacy programs, and beautification efforts in downtown Shelton and Derby.

The Hoptoberfest was such a success that Rotary Club officials already are planning the second one for the fall of 2014.
