Jim Ferris to host benefit

The Lion King’s Jim Ferris, a native of Shelton, will host the New York City Pretty In Pink Cocktail Cabaret & Women of Strength Awards on Feb. 21.

The Get In Touch Foundation will host this first annual event at The Yale Club of New York City. The foundation is a global non-profit organization based in Milford, provides a free breast health educational initiative to girls in grades 5-12.

Victoria Nicole Bridal Couture is the presenting sponsor for this cocktails and cabaret event, which will honor Victoria Nicole’s designer and president, Victoria McMillan, and her mother, breast cancer survivor Alvina Patricia Kozlowski, as The Get In Touch Foundation’s 2013 New York City Women of Strength.

Victoria Nicole Bridal Couture provides a Daisy Wheel to each bride with her purchase of a gown.

The Lion King’s Ferris will be the host of the two-hour Pretty In Pink, which will also include performances by a troupe of select Broadway performers, inspirational speakers, and a silent auction, which will include tickets and a back stage tour of several Broadway shows.

The Get In Touch Foundation’s Girls’ Program is being implemented in 50 states, Washington, D.C., and in 21 countries.

The Daisy Wheel is an interactive tool with eight tips that teach a girl the importance of and how to do a breast self-exam — for life. Corresponding diagrams on the back of each Daisy Wheel allow girls to see an age-appropriate visual instruction in addition to the text.

The Daisy Wheel app is also available for free on the iTunes Store and has been downloaded in 75 countries since its June 2011 launch.

Daisy Wheels are given free to schools when a school nurse or health educator orders the program on the foundation’s website. Contact Get In Touch at 203-283-5127 for ticket information visit getintouchfoundation.org/pip.php.
