The Nichols Improvement Association (NIA) will hold the 24th annual Jingle Bell Run on Saturday, Dec. 7. The 5k race begins at 9:30 a.m. on the Nichols Green and continues through streets in the Trumbull neighborhood, lined with friends and neighbors ringing jingle bells and cheering on participants.

The event includes the Jingle Bell Jr., a free kids fun run, starting at the Nichols Firehouse on Shelton Road at 9:15 a.m. Awards will be given to top finishers in each age category.

This year the NIA is also accepting nonperishable food donations for the Trumbull Food Pantry. Participants and spectators are encouraged to drop off items during early number pick-up and on race day to benefit those in need in the community.

Event attracts hundreds of runners

This festive holiday tradition attracts hundreds of race participants from around the region and is open to runners and walkers.

The registration fee is $20 before Wednesday, Dec. 4 ($25 afterward), and includes a long-sleeve race T-shirt featuring artwork from a local student (while supplies last).

Early number, goodie bag and T-shirt pick-up for all pre-registrants will be held on Friday, Dec. 6 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the Nichols United Methodist Church Hall in Nichols; registration also may be done at this time.
