Largest Revolutionary War reenactment in CT since 2009
Experience living history at the largest Revolutionary War Reenactment in CT since 2009 when the 5th Connecticut Volunteer Regiment and other regiments including cavalry encamp on the Morehouse Fields of Samuel Staples Elementary School. This weekend reenactment is co-sponsored by the Easton’s Historical Society and the Parks and Recreation Department. This family friendly event takes place in Easton on Saturday Sept. 19th and Sunday Sept. 20th.
More than 125 reenact-ors of the 5th Connecticut Volunteer Regiment and other volunteers will portray Patriot and British Military Regiments setting up camp, performing drills, skirmishing and recreating the burning of Morehouse Farm. Children can drill with the regimental soldiers and watch as they fire their weapons. Other than the military drills and a cavalry demonstration, attendees can watch a surgical demonstration highlighting the treatments and remedies available to the army surgeon on the colonial battlefields.
See exhibits of uniforms, clothing, fashions of the day, feeling the various textiles which were available during the American Revolutionary war. Spend the early evening taking a candlelit tour of the camp site and watching a cannon pyrotechnic demonstration. Through interaction with the reenact-ors, learn about life at camp and on the home front from soldiers, surgeons, cooks, spies, and other colonial reenact-ors.
The 5th Connecticut Volunteer Regiment is made up of individuals who enjoy learning and teaching about early American history. Members include men, women, and children from the surrounding areas who are dedicated to the creation of a living history experience for many communities. By including women and children in the regiment, a broader representation of colonial life beyond the military is brought to each event.
