Learn about the Boys & Girls Club at open house

An open house highlighting programs at the Boys & Girls Club of the Lower Naugatuck Valley is set for Tuesday, Oct. 7 from 4-7 p.m.

The public and interested parents are invited to attend.

During the expo the club will showcase their programs, including the before- and after-school sessions as well as the new preschool program.

Preschool program

“We are extremely excited about our new pre-K 3 and 4 program at the Boys & Girls Club,” said Shay Roscoe in an email with the Herald. “There is increasing evidence that children gain a lot from attending pre-school programs.”

Roscoe said preschool members have opportunities to learn each day,  with the chance to develop fine and gross motor skills, participate in dramatic play and arts, be constructively engaged with other children and adult staff, and develop math, literacy, and critical-thinking skills, including letters and numbers.

“The program is open to all 3-5 year olds who are not enrolled in school,” Roscoe said. “Children may attend full or half days; the program will run from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.. Nutritious snacks and lunch will be provided. This program will open early to accommodate delayed openings.”

Programs highlighted

Parents will have the opportunity to meet and ask questions of the Boys & Girls Club staff, take a tour and see what’s offered daily.

Programs to be showcased include: art, Elizabeth Shelton program, Keystone Club, music, Perry Hill program, Project Learn: Homework Help, SMART Moves, sports leagues and more.

The club is located at 1 Postive Place. More information can be found at www.BGC-LNV.org/SheltonClubhouse.
