The CT Food Bank reports that one-in-eight adults and one-in-six children living in Connecticut struggle with hunger, a sobering statistic especially with Thanksgiving just a day away. To offset this hardship, the 15th annual Liberty Bank/Rotary Club Thanksgiving Drive has raised a record-breaking $426,607 to supply holiday dinners and to fill shelves at local food pantries.
In Derby and Shelton, the Derby/Shelton Rotary Club and the Derby and Shelton branches of Liberty Bank accounted for $9,674 of that grand total. The Liberty Bank Foundation then matched each dollar raised with an additional 25 cents (or $2,419) and paid an incentive for a total of $12,193. Funds will be used to support Spooner House and St. Vincent de Paul.
