Local veterans run for warriors

For the second year in a row, Shelton resident Lauren Cust, a wounded warrior from Operation Iraqi Freedom, and the Derby/Shelton AmVets Post 43 team were the top fund-raisers for the fifth annual Sunset Run for the Warriors held at the Huntington Green.

Cust was the top individual fund-raiser. The AmVets Post 43 was the top team fund-raiser, with $1,445 donated to the race. Post 43 has more than 30 female veteran members and more than 50 Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan)/Operation Iraqi Freedom veterans out of a total of 150 members.

The mission of Hope for the Warriors is to enhance the quality of life for post-9/11 service members, their families, and families of the fallen who have sustained physical and psychological wounds in the line of duty.
