Mental health education classes starting

The National Alliance on Mental Illness of Connecticut will sponsor a free 12-week educational course on mental illness. The classes are for family members and loved ones of persons who have a mental illness.

Some of the topics covered in the class include: the latest brain research; problem solving; communication skills; medication review; empathy workshop; diagnosis and dealing with critical periods; rehabilitation services; advocacy and fighting stigma. The classes are intended to help participants understand and support their loved one’s illness while they learn how to maintain their own well-being.

Classes will be held in Naugatuck beginning Thursday, February 6, 2014, from 7 to 9:30 p.m.
