NOW IN EFFECT: Temporary road closing to impact drivers, bring more trucks through Shelton
An upcoming road closing in Monroe could impact Shelton drivers during 10 days in mid-August. In addition, truck traffic will be re-routed through a part of Shelton during the closing.
A section of Route 111 (Monroe Turnpike) in Monroe will be closed from Monday, Aug. 11 to Wednesday, Aug. 20 for a bridge project. This is the section of Route 111 that is near the Big Y supermarket and Goodwill store.
Route 111 will be closed from the intersection of Route 110 to the intersection of Cross Hill Road (that’s the corner with a Rite Aid ). Route 110 goes from Monroe to Shelton (where it’s Leavenworth Road, Howe Avenue and River Road) to Stratford.
The 10-day closure of a section of Route 111 in Monroe is needed to reconstruct a portion of the road, including the replacement of a bridge over a brook.
Closures will begin on Aug. 11 at 6 a.m., and the road is scheduled to reopen by Aug. 21 at 6 a.m.
Traffic on Route 111 northbound will be detoured onto Cross Hill Road to Wheeler Road (next to the Monroe Volunteer Fire Department building) to Route 110, and then back onto Route 111.
Traffic on Route 111 southbound will be detoured onto Route 110 to Wheeler Road to Cross Hill Road, and then back on to Route 111.
Local traffic only will be allowed to pass the Century 21 Plaza northbound (where the Big Y is located) and Jeanette Street southbound.
Truck traffic goes through Shelton
All truck traffic on Route 111 north or Route 25 north will detour onto Route 25 south to Route 8 north to Route 110 north in Shelton to Route 111 north in Monroe.
All truck traffic on Route 111 south will be detoured onto Route 110 south to Route 8 south to Route 25 north to Route 111 in Monroe.
