New bishop to be installed this week
The new head of the Diocese of Bridgeport — Bishop Frank Caggiano — will be installed into his new post Thursday, Sept. 19.
He replaces Bishop William E. Lori, who was transferred to lead Baltimore Catholics more than a year ago. Caggiano said he returned to his lessons from the seminary.
“If it is God’s will, I’m doing everything God’s way. No matter what the challenges,” he said.
Caggiano, who has a Facebook group page, also plans on setting up a Twitter account to communicate with the diocese, which will become active the day of his installation as the fifth bishop of the Diocese of Bridgeport.
The installation will be at St. Theresa in Trumbull, beginning at 1:30 p.m. According to the diocese’s website, invitations were sent to people throughout the diocese, and those who accepted the invitation through RSVP received tickets to the installation. The installation is expected to be able to be viewed on television beginning at 2 p.m., according to the diocese website. The included stations are: EWTN, NETny and Catholic TV.
Bishop Caggiano will be welcomed to the diocese at a Vespers Prayer Service Wednesday, Sept. 18, 7 p.m. at St. Augustine Cathedral in Bridgeport.
