P&Z chairman receives award for leadership and vision


Ruth Parkins, above, was presented with the Raymond P. Lavietes Award by the Shelton Economic Development Corp. at its annual breakfast. Parkins is chairman of the Shelton Planning and Zoning Commission.

The award is given by the SEDC to recognize outstanding leadership and vision for the city of Shelton. Mayor Mark Lauretti presented Parkins with the award during the event at the Brownson Country Club. About 60 people were in attendance.

Parkins has been credited for her role in the planned and successful growth of Shelton, with it balance of commercial, residential and open space properties.

The SEDC is a private, nonprofit entity that works with the city on downtown development issues.
