The section of the road near 329 Bridgeport Avenue and Nell’s Rock Road was blocked off by Shelton police following a 3 car accident that sent two people to Bridgeport hospital.

The opposite side of the road, past the Cadillac dealership was also blocked off by several police units.

Sergeant James Millington reports the two drivers who were rushed to the trauma center in Bridgeport, "are going to be okay but are badly hurt."

Before reopening Bridgeport Avenue, officers on the scene spoke to witnesses and reenacted the crash to get a more clear idea of what happened.

According to Sergant Millington, witnesses said the Jeep 4x4 that was totaled in the crash, swerved into oncoming traffic and collided with the red AMEC truck before it slid into the nearby wooded area.

A third driver of a Toyota Camry was able to “swerve at the last second” and was only “nicked” by the truck. That person’s car wasn’t badly damaged, according to Millington and they were able to drive away from the scene without sustaining any major injuries.

Both the driver of the truck and the Jeep were rushed to Bridgeport Hospital’s trauma  center.

Bridgeport Avenue was reopened at around 2:30 p.m.

This crash is still under investigation.
