The tire had been transported to the collection site by other volunteers via a boat.

Many people signed up to clean the shoreline in Shelton, Milford and Stratford, with the local base being the Sunnyside Boat Launch and adjacent Ayer’s Landing Marina. Boats ferried people to locations to collect debris.

Many Shelton High School students participated. They can earn community service credit for their efforts.

Organizers provided garbage bags and rubber gloves. The goal is to restore the natural beauty of the Housatonic River by removing litter and other debris from its shoreline.
