The municipal agency holds separate evening swims for fifth-, sixth- and seventh-graders in March every year.

“It’s a safe, supervised place for the kids to hang out and socialize,” said the Youth Service Bureau’s Dee Kopec, who oversaw the event. Lifeguards also were on duty at the community center’s swimming pool.

All the participating students attend Shelton Intermediate School.

The Shelton Youth Service Bureau was formed in 1988 and offers various services and activities for young people in Shelton, including Tween/Teen Center, life skills classes, Halloween Trick or Trunk, safe babysitting course, peer advocates/community services, and substance abuse education.
