POSTPONED TO MARCH 22: Winter hike in Shelton to feature marshmallows, hot cocoa
UPDATE: Due to field conditions, the Shelton Trails Committee's Marshmallow March hike has been postponed to next Sunday, March 22.
The Shelton Trails Committee’s annual Marshmallow March will take place Sunday, March 8 at 1 p.m. (NEW EVENT DATE IS MARCH 15)
Hikers should gather in the parking area at the Shelton Land Conservation Trust property at Nicholdale Farm on Route 110 (the address is 322 Leavenworth Road).
Participants will be guided on a hike to the Boy Scout camp on the property, where they will gather around a fire and toast marshmallows and drink hot chocolate. “This is a fun event that both adults and kids will enjoy,” organizers said.
The hike is free and open to the public. It is intended to show people how they can spend time outdoors enjoying Shelton’s open space during the winter.
Dress appropriately for snow
People should be prepared for deep snow and possibly cool weather, although it looks like Sunday may be a warm day. The forecast calls for partly sunny skies with a daytime high of 41 degrees in Shelton.
Participants are welcome to use snowshoes or cross country skies due to all the snow on the ground, and waterproof boots are suggested for those planning to walk.
Small children may be comfortable on flat sleds if people want to bring them.
Leashed pets are welcome. The inclement weather date is Sunday, March 15.
On Sunday morning, those planning to attend can confirm the hike is on by going to:
