Pet item donations sought to boost local shelters, rescue groups
Donations are being accepted for the sixth annual Presents 4 Pets collection campaign, held in support of National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week from Nov. 3–9.
Mandy Oram, owner of Shelton-based Paws and Kisses Pet Sitting Service, is hosting the 2013 Southern Connecticut Presents 4 Pets campaign to benefit homeless animals in the community.
Items such as pet food, treats, toys, blankets, towels, rugs, beds, leashes, collars and cat litter are being sought. Donations will be accepted in this region from Oct. 1 through the first week of November.
Donation boxes are located at the Valley Chamber of Commerce, 10 Progress Drive, Shelton, and at H3 Pet Supply, 475 Hawley Lane, Stratford. Items can be dropped off during normal business hours at these sites.
Helps pets in animal shelters
The goal of Presents 4 Pets is to help pets living in animal shelters by providing pet care items desperately needed to help keep shelters operational, and the animals there comfortable and safe.
Last year, more than $2,500 worth of items were collected through the local Presents 4 Pets campaign, according to organizers.
Pet sitting companies involved
Professional pet sitters across the country, such as Oram, are sponsoring local campaigns in coordination with the National Association of Professional Pet Sitters (NAPPS).
“Through this program, we seek to generate awareness of community animal shelters and rescue organizations and the important role they serve,” said Oram, a NAPPS member. “This is a great opportunity for all animal lovers — pet owners or not — to get involved and make a difference.”
Cynthia Socha of H3 Pet Supply said the donations “will support shelters and rescue groups and possibly save lives.”
Other collection sites sought
Other local Presents 4 Pets collection sites are being sought. “We would also like to invite local businesses, condo associations, vets, etc. to get involved by hosting a donation box,” Oram said.
Those interested in hosting a donation box can contact Oram at 203-922-2643 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
