Public input is being sought on the need for on-demand transportation for people with disabilities in the Valley, including Shelton.
The Kennedy Center has been awarded funding by the Connecticut Council on Developmental Disabilities to study the potential to provide on-demand transportation services for people with disabilities in the Valley region, consisting of Ansonia, Derby, Seymour and Shelton.
This study will examine ways to build on the existing services, improve coordination and expand transportation options in these Valley towns.
Meeting schedule
Three meetings have been scheduled to get public input, with two of them in Shelton. The meeting schedule is:
SHELTON ON JUNE 9: Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce office, 10 Commerce Drive, on Tuesday, June 9 from 5:30–7:30 p.m.
SHELTON ON JUNE 10: Shelton Community Center, 41 Church St., on Wednesday, June 10 from 9:30–11:30 a.m.
ANSONIA ON JUNE 10: Ansonia City Hall (Erlingheuser Room), 253 Main St., on Wednesday, June 10 from 2–4 p.m.
Current barriers to travel
At the meetings, study facilitators are hoping to find out how, where and when Valley residents with disabilities travel, current barriers to travel, priorities for improved transportation, and which places and destinations require better transportation connections.
