Read Aloud Day: Volunteers needed to read to school children
The School Volunteer Association of Bridgeport (SVA) is seeking more than 600 volunteers from Bridgeport and surrounding communities to participate in Read Aloud Day 2014 on Thursday, Oct. 23.
Volunteers will share the joy of reading with every pre-kindergarten through sixth grade class in the Bridgeport public schools.

SVA will provide the children’s books that will be read and then donated to classroom libraries. Some volunteers will read “Ben Rides On,” a story about a boy, a bully and a bicycle. The book is written by Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist Matt Davies, who will be in Bridgeport to read his own book to a second grade classes.
Others will share a true story written by Sarah Edmonds, “Nurse, Soldier, Spy,” that tells the adventures of a young woman who poses as a man to fight for her country during the Civil War.
