Required boating safety course being offered in area
The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will conduct a one-day course that meets Connecticut requirements permitting boaters to operate power boats and personal watercraft on Sunday, March 23 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. at the South Benson Marina Auxiliary Base, Fairfield.
Connecticut boat owners cannot register any vessel that has an inboard or outboard engine without proof of completion of an eight-hour course.
The fee is $70 and includes course materials, refreshments, and lunch. Registration is March 16 from 1-4 p.m. at the Flotilla Base in South Benson Marina, Fairfield.
State Conservation ID number needed
Before taking the boating course, participants must first obtain a Connecticut conservation identification number. For anyone who has a Connecticut hunting or fishing license, the conservation ID will be the same ID number that was assigned with either of these licenses.
To obtain a personal conservation number, log onto https://ct.outdoorcentral.net/InternetSales/Sales, follow the instructions for “New Customers,” and complete the registration process. Print the conservation number page and bring it to the March 16 course registration.
