Road closures expected Sunday in Huntington because of road race

Nearly 500 people are expected to take part in this weekend's Sunset Run for the Warriors in Huntington. The race is expected to bring road closures.

On Sunday, Aug. 17, the fifth annual 10K, 5 K and one-mile walk will start near the Huntington Green on Huntington Street.

According to the Shelton Police Department, several streets in the Huntington section will be temporarily closed to accommodate the people involved in the event. The race will begin at Huntington Street and continue onto Isinglass Road, Nichols Avenue and ending at Church Street. The 5K will cut across Blueberry Lane to Nichols Avenue.

Closure begins at 4:15 p.m.

At 4:15 p.m. the entire race route will be closed to all traffic, except for emergency vehicles. The race route will remain closed until the last runner has passed through a particular section or roadway of the route.

The entire roadway will be re-opening no later than 6:30 p.m.

During the closing ceremonies after the race, traffic around the Huntington Green will be reduced to one lane to allow safe traffic control and pedestrian crossing.

Drivers are advised to seek alternative routes during the time period of the race.
