SHELTON RENTERS: Time nears to apply for rebate program
The city will accept applications for partial refund of rent and utility bills from elderly and totally disabled renters whose income for 2014 did not exceed $34,600 if single, or $42,200 if married.
This year, applications will be accepted only at the Shelton Senior Center, 81 Wheeler St., from April 1 to Oct. 1. The city acts as the municipal agent for the state of Connecticut in the renters’ rebate program.
The rebate program is available to renters who were 65 years old on or before Dec. 31, 2014; and to renters, regardless of age, who are totally disabled.
An individual who receives permanent full disability benefits under Social Security or under any federal, state or local government retirement or disability plan, including the Railroad Retirement Act, is eligible for the program.
Applicants who filed a federal tax return for 2014 must present a copy for verification of income. In addition, 2014 rent receipts, utility receipts, and proof of all income — including a 2014 Social Security benefit statement (Form SSA-1099) — must be submitted.
Beginning April 1, forms can be presented to the renters’ rebate coordinator at the Shelton Senior Center on weekdays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
