SHS golfers earn Caddie Scholarship

The Shelton High School Athletic Department is proud to announce the accomplishments of SHS Golf team members Tom Sweeney and Patrick Conte as recipients of the Western Golf Association Chick Evans Caddie Scholarship. This is a very prestigious scholarship which covers full college tuition and housing. The Evans Foundation only recently began working with local clubs and awarding scholarships to caddies on the east coast. Tom will be attending the University of Michigan and Patrick will be attending Penn State University.

Scholarships are awarded to students who work part-time as caddies at local golf clubs. Caddies are nominated by members of their respective clubs and the application and selection process is very competitive.

Sweeney plans to study finance at Michigan and Conte is scheduled to study civil engineering at Penn State. Both recipients are current members of the SHS Golf Team.

“We are very thankful for the opportunities provided by our club and the Western Golf Association. “It has been an amazing experience which provided us the opportunity to meet some incredible people and build some strong relationships within the golf community. We are looking forward to heading to school and working with the other award winners as we begin this next phase of our lives.” said Conte.

“These boys are excellent examples of students who have taken advantage of opportunities provided within the golf community and have successfully applied their knowledge and passion for golf to earn this prestigious award. I am very proud of the work they have done and excited for their families “, says SHS Golf Coach, Joe LaPorta.
