See the work of Herald cartoonist at Plumb Library display

A display of original artwork by Hersam Acorn editorial cartoonist Douglas Smith, including items that have appeared in the Shelton Herald, can be seen during April at the Plumb Memorial Library in Shelton.

Smith, a Stratford resident, has been drawing professionally since 1984. In addition to Hersam Acorn, his cartoons have appeared in Hometown Publications (Connecticut), The Champlain Valley News (Vermont), The Meriden Record Journal (Connecticut), The Journal Inquirer (Manchester, Conn.), Graphic Arts Monthly and The Wittenburg Door Magazine.

For several years, he drew the weekly feature “Rollie” that appeared in Hometown Publications’ classified section, including in the then-Huntington Herald. He also has done freelance advertising illustration.

Smith is a two-time recipient of the New England Newspaper Association’s award for Editorial Cartooning.

Viewing hours are Monday to Thursday, 9 a.m.- 8:30 p.m.; and Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m.- 4:30 p.m.
