Senior center news: Disney concert, myths, Halloween party and more
The Shelton Senior Center offers classes, workshops and support to area seniors. The center is located at 81 Wheeler Street. Information: 203-924-9324. Some classes are for members only; others are for members and non-members alike. Wi-Fi is available to members from 9 to 4:30 p.m.
Get out your Mickey Ears and join the Shelton Songsters for an afternoon of Disney Musical Magic on Wednesday, Oct. 22, at 1 p.m. Refreshments provided by Benchmark Senior Living at Split Rock. Lunch beforehand from 11:45-12:15 p.m., at a cost of $3.
Probate “Myth Busters”
An informal information session is being offered by the Honorable Fred J. Anthony, Probate Judge for the City of Shelton, and will be held Thursday, Oct. 23, at 10:30 a.m. at the Shelton Senior Center.
Anthony will lead a discussion of the probate process in the State of Connecticut and allow ample opportunity for your most pressing probate questions to be answered. This is your chance to get factual information regarding probate processes and dispel some of the “probate myths.” Non-members welcome.
Party Friday, Oct. 24, noon to 3 p.m. Menu: Pumpkin ravioli, chicken piccatta, rice pilaf, broccoli and carrot medley, candied pecan salad, roll, Halloween cupcakes, tea or coffee. Cost: $15. Music by Vinnie Carr. Tickets on sale through Oct. 22.
Blood pressure screening — The Emergency Care Institute of Bridgeport Hospital will conduct Blood Pressure Screenings at the Senior Center on Monday, Oct. 27, from noon-2 p.m. Non-members welcome.
Fall mini flu clinic
On Thursday, Oct. 30, from 9-10 a.m., Naugatuck Valley Health District will provide flu shots and Pneumonia shots. There are no appointments. Insurances accepted are: Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield and Medicare Part B. Those 65 and older receiving the high dose is $40; those receiving the vaccine 65 and younger will be $30.
People must bring their insurance cards and know what their primary insurance coverage plan is if they have more than one insurance. If you have any questions, call NVHD at 203-881-3255. Non-members welcome.
Valley Senior Services Council
Educational series on Medicare enrollment, Thursday, Oct. 30, 5:30 p.m. Dr. Beverly Kidder will be the speaker. Register with the center. A light supper will be provided.
44th anniversary celebration
Party Friday, Nov. 7, at noon. Music by Vinnie Carr. Luncheon includes: assorted cheese and crackers, baked filet of sole with crabmeat stuffing, loin of pork with ginger glaze, red mashed potatoes, string beans almondine, candied pecan salad, roll and butter, coffee or tea and anniversary cake and Asti Spumante Toast! Tickets on sale. Cost: $22. Set-ups and ice provided.
Monday, Nov. 10, noon, salute to veterans. Luncheon includes: baked lasagna, antipasto salad, meatballs, Italian bread a butter. Special dessert for veterans and attendees. Cost: $15. Music by Vinnie Carr.

Boys & Girls Club Annual Thanksgiving dinner

Precision Hearing Specialists provide free hearing maintenance the fourth Tuesday of each month from 10:30 to noon. Appointments are necessary and may be made by calling 203-381-9555. Non-members welcome.

Pool players are welcome to join the Monday “mixer” at 1 p.m. Teaching clinics and organized games are part of the program. All skill levels. Members only.
