Despite the rain, residents and veterans showed up early Monday morning ready to honor those who paid the ultimate price while serving our country.

Just about half way through the parade route the march came to a halt on the Derby/Shelton bridge where those who never received a proper burial or were lost at sea were honored by tossing a wreath into the Housatonic River. This year, Roy Glover of Shelton commemorated veterans by doing the honors.

"I'm at a loss for words," said Glover after tossing the wreath off of the bridge.

Mayor Mark Lauretti thanked all of the veterans in attendance for their service and participation.

"This is my 25th year as the city's representative and it is just as much of an honor now as it was 25 years ago," said Mayor Lauretti. "Mr. Glover is a native, he's our home stock, doesn't get much better than him."
