Shelton Farmers Market Association plans Halloween harvest celebration

 The Shelton Farmers Market Association invites the community to join in for a “Halloween Harvest Celebration” on Saturday, Oct. 31, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Shelton Farmers Market building, located at 100 Canal Street. This market will feature seasonal specialties and activities for families to celebrate the fall harvest.

Festivities include kids costume parade at 10 a.m. and other children’s activities such as pumpkin painting, face painting, and more. The Little Dog Laughed will hold a costume contest for your furry and fluffy members of your family at 12 p.m. The Farmers Market Band, made up of Joe Ballaro, Fred Monahan and friends will be playing live music from 10 a.m.- 1p.m The day will also feature antique tractors in a “Touch A Tractor” display, sponsored by Laurel Glen Farm.

The day will offer the community an opportunity to see the abundance of  local agricultural products still available which the farmers put so much care into producing and to celebrate the harvest season. All of the produce, meats, and eggs sold at the market are grown/raised within six miles of the market building. Seasonal Sweets and Catering will be making their breakfast sandwiches and other seasonal treats. Liquid Lunch/GROW Shelton will provide market shoppers with samples of fall soups and stews using products donated by the farmers!

The vendors of the day include East Village Farm, Grassy Hill Farm, Laurel Glen Farm, Liquid Lunch/GROW, Oronoque Farms Bakery, Seasonal Sweets and Catering, Reid’s BBQ Sauces and Rubs, Stone Gardens Farm, The Little Dog Laughed, These Things Take Thyme, and Waterview Farm.

The Shelton Farmers Market takes place at the Farmers Market Building, 100 Canal Street, every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. now until Nov. 21 and every Wednesday from 3 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. until Oct. 28. In addition to accepting cash and credit cards, the market also accepts SNAP and WIC benefits. Community members are encouraged to join the Shelton Farmers Market Association for an annual membership fee of $20 to show support for the producer-only market.
