Shelton High senior honored as good citizen by DAR

Shelton High School senior Ashley Chan is one the recipients of a 2015 Good Citizen Award from the local Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) chapter.

The DAR Good Citizens program and scholarship competition is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship by local high school seniors.

Recipients reflect the qualities of dependability, truthfulness, loyalty, cooperation, consideration of others, leadership and patriotism.

Ashley is a member of the Junior State of America Club, interacting with high school students from all over the Northeast. She plans to study sociology or mathematics in college.

She received a national DAR certificate, pin, and a check at a March 10 ceremony, attended by students, families, school administrators and teachers.

Impressed by achievements

Committee Co-Chairman Betsy Grant, a Shelton resident, presented the awards and said she was impressed by the achievements and accolades of the recipients.

The other two DAR Good Citizen Award winners were Andrea Albarella, a senior at Derby High School, and Erin Wingo, a senior at Trumbull High School.

The Sarah Riggs Humphreys-Mary Silliman DAR Chapter is a women’s service organization that perpetuates the memory and spirit of the men and women who won American independence. It focuses on historic preservation, education and patriotism. Learn more at
