The Shelton Youth Service Bureau (YSB) recently held its annual Youth Speaks Out reception at Shelton Intermediate School (SIS).

Each year, YSB sponsors a contest that asks students to color, draw or write about a youth or community issue. “Kindness” was this year’s topic.

Winners from the age and grade categories were recognized and presented with monetary gifts and certificates of achievement.

Shelton students nominated throughout the year to YSB’s Spotlight on Youth program also were recognized. These students have done something to make their school or the community a better place to live.

YSB acknowledged Youth2Youth peer advocates, who mentor younger children, teach SIS health classes, and plan and implement various prevention programs that teach life skills.

In addition, senior students were honored at the reception.
