Shelton is now home to a nationally ranked pro truck driver
Resident Ernest Budlowski placed third in the Straight Truck Class of the American Trucking Association’s National Truck Driving Championships (NTDC), competing against approximately 400 drivers in the annual safety challenge. The NTDC took place from Aug. 11 to Aug 15.
The competitors are judged on a pre-trip written exam and obstacle course that tests each driver’s safety skills and expertise while backing, turning and maneuvering the trucks.
Budlowski was competing in the Straight Truck Division, tractor trailers that carry cargo on the same chassis as the power unit and cab. In other words, the trucks have no separate axles.
As a driver with Con-way Freight, he has over 20 years of driving experience and has achieved more than 1 million accident-free miles. He qualified for the NTDC — a test of safety habits and trucking knowledge — by winning the Connecticut Truck Driving Championships in June.
The National Truck Driving Championships draws more than 2000 friends, family, colleagues, company executives and fans from across the country, according trucking.org.
