A Shelton resident played a role in the construction of a Boys & Girls Club building that received a national environmental award.

Peter Zannis of Turner Construction, who lives in Shelton, was among those present during an award ceremony at the Wakeman Boys & Girls Club’s Smilow-Burroughs Clubhouse in Bridgeport.

The clubhouse building has been honored as a LEED Platinum building, the highest award offered by the U.S. Green Building Council, demonstrating Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.

The Smilow-Burroughs Clubhouse is the first Boys & Girls Club to receive the award.

The facility is on Fairfield Avenue in Bridgeport and primarily serves the nearby Black Rock and West End neighborhoods.
