Shelton woman turns 105: Hot-air balloon rides, knitting and email keep her busy

A Shelton resident recently celebrated her 105th birthday. Ella Bradbury is the oldest resident at Crosby Commons Assisted Living at Wesley Village.

She celebrated the milestone birthday surrounded by family and friends.

Bradbury has lived at Crosby Commons for nine years, where she has run the resident store, knitted lap robes and shawls for hospice patients, and, at age 96, learned how to correspond with her family through email.

A helicopter ride and daily rummy game

In recent years, she has participated in the Crosby Commons Journey of Dreams program by taking a trip up in a hot-air balloon and a helicopter ride.

Bradbury continues to lead an active lifestyle by attending lectures, playing her nightly game of Rummikub, and exercising daily in the Flex and Stretch program.

When asked for her secret to longevity, Ella’s responded, “Take life easy and keep breathing!”
