Show continues until April 20: Shelton residents star in Center Stage musical
“The Marvelous Wonderettes” will bring the music of the late 1950s and 1960s to Center Stage Theatre in Shelton from April 5 to 20.
The Center Stage production will star Fiona Bryson and Melissa Rampton, both of Shelton, and be directed by Francesca Scarpa.
Performances will be on Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m., with Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. on April 7, 14 and 21. There also will be a performance Thursday, April 18 at 7 p.m.
From 1958 prom to a 10-year reunion
The Marvelous Wonderettes takes place at the 1958 Springfield High School prom, where four girls with hopes and dreams as big as their crinoline skirts make up the Wonderettes. Audience members will learn about their lives and loves as the girls perform such classic ’50s and ’60s songs as "Lollipop," "Dream Lover," "Stupid Cupid," "Lipstick On Your Collar," "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me" "It's My Party.”
Act II resumes a decade later at the girls’ 10-year reunion, where the girls will sing hits from the 1960s. The play, written and created by Roger Bean, was an Off-Broadway sensation from 2008 to 2010.
‘A trip down Memory Lane’
Scarpa said the play “takes us on a trip down Memory Lane, bringing back delightful songs and recollections of great female vocalists like Connie Francis and the McGuire Sisters, to name a few.
“We have a cast of four musically talented young women who can sing the tight harmonies and deliver the dramatic vocal performances that the show calls for,” she said.
Other performers in the local production of “The Marvelous Wonderettes” are Caitlin O’Keefe Boles of Newtown and Casey Perruzzi of Stratford.
