Sponsors needed for 'Take Your Child to the Library'

Mini golf comes to the Plumb Memorial Library on Saturday, Feb. 1. Presented jointly by the Shelton School Readiness Council and the Friends of the Shelton Library, this family event will celebrate the third Connecticut Take Your Child to the Library Day.

The mini golf course will wind through the stacks and book shelves on both floors of the library at 65 Wooster Street. The event runs from 10-3 p.m.

The group is seeking community companies, agencies, families and individuals to sponsor each of the 18 tees, greens and hazards on the course. Greens or tees can be purchased for $50, and signage on the course will represent the sponsor. Hazards cost $35 and can be constructed by the sponsor to represent their agency or group.

For example, Plumb Library will create a tunnel made from an oversized atlas and the readiness council’s mascot, an oversized stuffed purple Ready Teddy, will be perched on a child sized chair in the middle of the course.

Sponsors can make out checks to “Friends of the Shelton Libraries” with “mini golf” in the note field and send them to the Plumb Memorial Library. Sponsors will be listed on the score cards and be included in flyers and other promotional materials in the community.

The event is free and refreshments will be supplied by the Friends. There will be a children’s book sale and a basket walk with family centered items at auction.

In addition there will be tours of the historic library building, dedicated in 1895, added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978 and featuring original architecture and décor.
