Summer playground sessions start Monday

The Summer Outdoor Playground through the Shelton Parks and Recreation Department is Monday, June 29, through Friday, Aug. 7.

The program is for Shelton residents only 6-14 years of age.

The playgrounds will be open each Monday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Weekly arts and crafts and field trips such as selected movies, roller-skating, miniature golf, bowling and Lazer Tag information will be posted on playground bulletin boards.

The six playground locations are Booth Hill, Elizabeth Shelton, Long Hill, Mohegan and Sunnyside schools, and Pine Rock Park off Long Hill Avenue. Each playground is supervised by screened Shelton college students.

The sessions will be closed on rainy days and July 3. Children spending the entire day should bring their lunches.

Registration is at each playground.


The Summer Outdoor Playground Program will offer basketball clinics for Shelton youth, ages 6 – 14, who are registered at the neighborhood elementary school playgrounds.

The clinics will be each Monday, July 6, through Aug 3, at the community center from 10:15 to 11:30 a.m. The program will provide the youngsters the opportunity to learn and develop individual skills through drills directed toward the various age groups.

The program is free to all registered playground youngsters.
