Sunday event honors young Newtown victim, begins Shelton High scholarship

The Shelton High School Class of 1981 invites the public to attend an event to establish a scholarship in memory of Jesse Lewis, son of class member Neil Heslin.

Jesse was one of the 20 students and six educators who lost their lives at Sandy Hook Elementary School last December.

The event will be held at Danny O’s on River Road in Shelton from 1-5 p.m. on Sunday, June 30, which would have been Jesse’s seventh birthday.

There will be a buffet provided by Danny O’s, live entertainment and prizes.

The funds raised will be used to establish the Jesse Lewis Memorial Scholarship, which will be awarded annually to a graduating senior at Shelton High School.

— Autographed guitar of country music star Alan Jackson

— Themed baskets

— Gift certificates to local businesses and area attractions

Buy tickets now or at the door

Tickets may be purchased at the door on the day of the event for $25.

Tickets also may be purchased in advance or donations made if unable to attend by sending a check payable to Valley United Way, 8 Huntington St., P.O. Box 142, Shelton, CT 06484 with “Jesse Lewis Scholarship Fund” in the Memo section. All proceeds will go directly to the fund.
