Sunday food drives to benefit Spooner House
The annual Valley Has a Heart Spooner House food collection is Sunday, April 19 from 10 a.m.=3 p.m. at three Stop & Shop stores in the lower Naugatuck Valley: Shelton, Ansonia and Seymour.
The goal is to gather enough non-perishable food to last for at least two months and $5,000 in cash to use for restocking the shelves as needed following the cold winter months when giving generally decreases.
Stop & Shop is the overall marquee sponsor for the food drives. Dworken, Hillman, LaMorte, and Sterczala, P.C. is the site sponsor for both Shelton and Ansonia. Also again this year the Hairy Dog Grrrage, will be the Seymour site sponsor.
The Stop & Shop stores where donations can be made are at:
— 898 Bridgeport Ave. in Shelton
— 100 Division St. in Ansonia
— 15 Franklin St, in Seymour
There will be a competition between the three Stop & Shop locations to raise the most money and non-perishable food items.
Shelton High students volunteering
Volunteer groups assisting at the various Stop & Shops during the food drives include the following, but each group will be assisted by Spooner House volunteers, staff, sponsors and members of the ACT Board of Directors:

At Spooner House:
The Bridgeport-based Save Our Youth organization’s Community Enrichment Program (CEP) will be on-site at Spooner House, accepting donations as they come in and counting the total donations from each site before putting them on the food bank shelves.
The CEP group has volunteered at Spooner House in the past, preparing meals and playing games with the residents.
