Symphony performs free children's concert in Shelton

The New Haven Symphony Orchestra (NHSO) will present a free family concert on Saturday, Feb. 1 at Shelton Intermediate School, 675 Constitution Blvd. North.

The one-hour performance, "Greta’s Dream," will tell the story of Greta the hippo and her friend Polly the Frog on a journey to the sky.

With the help of some friends and wizards, Greta’s dream just might come true. Story and music by Charles DeRamus.

The NHSO bass section and a narrator bring the tale to life and introduce children to the musical world of the double bass.

The event begins with the  Instrument Discovery Zone at 1:30 p.m., where children can tap, tickle and toot real orchestral instruments. The concert takes place at 2, followed by an afternoon snack at 3, when youngsters can meet the performers.

Admission to the "Greta's Dream" concert and the pre- and post-performance activities are all free of charge, and no pre-registration is needed.
