Take a stroll in Shelton to benefit children’s hospital; Vets organize event
The American Legion will sponsor a Kids Walk to raise money for the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center on Saturday, April 19 at 10 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park (the Riverwalk) in Shelton.
The day’s event will include a 1- to 3-mile walk. People can register and make donations that morning at the Shelton Farmers Market, next to the park.
Bottled water and snacks will be provided for walk participants at the Farmers Market.
The fund-raising event is being organized by Sutter-Terlizzi American Legion Post No. 16 of Shelton in conjunction with the American Legion Department of Connecticut’s Third District, which covers Fairfield County.
Alumni of Legion programs welcome
Along with the general public, alumni of American Legion programs are encouraged to join in the walk. Legion program alumni are men and women who have benefited from programs such as Boys State, Girls State, Legion baseball and youth groups sponsored by the Legion.
The event will be an opportunity for Legion program alumni and to catch up with old friends, according to organizers.
Funds to help hospital
All pledges and donations to the Kids Walk will benefit the nonprofit Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, a 187-bed facility that focuses on the care of infants, children and adolescents from around the state.
