Trails Committee Work Party Nov. 12
Regular work parties are held the 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month, generally starting 8:30 a.m. in the summer and 9 a.m. in the colder months.
Hikers and strollers stop to thank the volunteers when they find them working on one of Shelton's trails. Some assume that they’re paid workers for the city doing their job, but they’re actually just residents trying to keep the trails clear and safe for everyone. That is their goal, trail maintenance and at times they create new trails. The core group of volunteers is made up of eight unpaid Trails Committee members, and more than ever they need the assistance of others to keep up with the clearing of the 15 or so miles of trails in Shelton. They appreciate any and all who forsake a Saturday morning to join them in this endeavor. See what it takes to make your stroll enjoyable!
(Note: Parents, this is a great opportunity for your high school sons and daughters to earn some community service hours and at the same time learn a little about our trail system. Shove 'em out the door for a few hours to do something useful!)
On Saturday, Nov. 12 at 8:30 A.M. the Shelton Trails Committee will host a Work Party along the Rec Path at Pine Lake work party.
The group will meet at the parking area near 130 Shelton Ave. They'll be cutting back overgrowth, removing leaves, and sprucing up this section of the Rec. Path. Bring loppers, rakes, or hand pruners if you have them, or they will provide tools. Dress for the weather, of course, heavy work gloves a necessity. Bring something to drink and maybe a snack. Be prepared to enjoy the outdoors on a Fall day, get some exercise, and give back to your community. All are welcome.
