Valley food drive to benefit Spooner House called a success

February’s annual Valley Has a Heart Spooner House food collection exceeded goal by nearly $2,000.

It “proved residents here are generous, despite the rough winter we have all experienced,” said Susan Agamy, executive director of the Spooner House. “We were over our goal by more than $1,850.”

Shelton residents contributed by donating 22 carts of food, and $988.48 in cash.

Stop & Shop, the event’s marquee sponsor, along with site sponsors Daniel Jacobs, LLC of Oxford and Dworken, Hillman, LaMorte & Sterczala, PC of Shelton, contributed $2,850. In Ansonia, 13 carts of food and $439.20 cash was collected. In Seymour, 16 carts of food and $530.13 in cash was collected.

The goal was to gather enough non-perishable food to last for at least two months and $3,000 to use for restocking the shelves as needed during the cold winter months.
