Walk to benefit cancer care center to pass through Shelton
On Sunday, Sept. 15 at 2: P.M., the Polish Falcons of America, Nests 208 and 36, will host the fourth annual 2013 Derby Greenway Walk-a-Thon to benefit the Griffin Hospital Center for Cancer Care.
The 3.5-mile walk will start at the entry to the Greenway on Division Street in Derby and will circle through to Shelton and back again. Following the walk, refreshments will be served at the Polish Falcons Nest 36, 108 Central St., Ansonia. The cost to join is $20 before Sept. 10, and $25 on the day of the event. Anyone interested in supporting this cause may take part in this event.
Griffin Hospital’s Patient Assistance Fund was established in 2009 with a mission to help patients and families needing assistance with any aspect of treatment or survivorship. Funds have been used to supports costs of transportation, medications, wigs and prostheses.
Theresa Wadsworth, walk coordinator, said the event is expected to attract participants from Polish Falcons members in Connecticut and Massachusetts.
“We are very excited to host the event again this year,” she said. “Griffin Hospital is a great cause. I can’t tell you how many people at Griffin helped my husband when he was disabled, and then helped me with my cancer. Now, it’s payback time!”
