Wednesday: Veterans support group will meet in Shelton to discuss VA benefits

Ramon Agosto, veteran service officer, will be at the Shelton Senior Center on Wednesday, Aug. 13, at 12:30 p.m. for a veteran support session.

He will be available to assist veterans in applying for VA benefits, and preparing and presenting claims. No appointments necessary. Non-members welcome.

Elder law — Attorney Drazen will be at the center on Tuesday, Aug. 19, at 10:30 a.m. The topic of discussion will be health care directives. Non-members welcome.

Shelton Songsters — Members begin rehearsals Wednesday, Aug. 20, at 12:30 p.m. Bring your music. Those interested in joining should call Ron Goddard at 203-929-4371.

Caregiver workshop — Held Thursday, Aug. 21, 5:30 p.m. A representative from Liberty Medical and Patient Air Center will speak on adaptive equipment. A light supper will be served. Register by Aug. 19.

Blood pressure screening — The Emergency Care Institute of Bridgeport Hospital will hold screenings Monday, Aug. 25, 12 to 2 p.m. Non-members welcome.

Hearing maintenance — Precision Hearing Specialists provide free hearing maintenance the fourth Tuesday of each month from 10:30 to noon. This month is Aug. 26. Appointments are necessary and may be made by calling 203-381-9555. Non-members welcome.

September dance — Friday, Sept. 12, 1 p.m. Tickets are $4. Music by Vinnie Carr. Tickets on sale from Aug. 8 to Sept. 10. Lunch is served from 11:45 to 12:15 p.m., for $3.

Senior health and wellness fair — Tuesday, Sept. 23. State Sen. Kevin Kelly and his staff hosts. State and local organizations will be on site to provide health screenings and up-to date information about programs available to the senior population and their families relating to health, legal issues and financial services.

There will be a special presentation at noon when Judith Stein, executive director of the Center for Medicare Advocacy and member of the Federal Commission on Long Term Care, will discuss recent Medicare developments and what they mean for you and your family.

Bridge lessons — Are you interested in learning how to play Bridge or just looking to sharpen your skills? Call the center to register. Lessons will begin in September on Wednesdays at 10 a.m., if there are enough registered for a class. Members only.

Pocket billiard mixer — Pool players are welcome to join the Monday “mixer” at 1 p.m. Teaching clinics and organized games are part of the program. All skill levels. Members only.

Games — Wii Bowling, Thursdays at 2 p.m.; Bingo, Monday, Wednesday and Friday 1 p.m.
