Who has been cleaning up Shelton? They have
The Shelton Anti-Litter Committee’s 2014 Clean Sweep Awards went to a Scout troop, business and individual.
The annual Shelton Clean Sweep enables local people and entities to play an active role in cleaning up streets, public recreation areas and school grounds.
This year’s Clean Sweep “yielded another great turnout,” according to organizers. Certificates of appreciation and custom iron-on patches are given to people who assist with Clean Sweep.

The committee chooses a Volunteer of the Year in three categories.
Boy Scout Troop 28 won in the civic group category for organizing four separate cleanups on Shelton open space properties, including in the Shelton Lakes Greenway and new Mohegan Road open space.
Tighe & Bond was recognized in the business category for joining forces with the Shelton Land Conservation Trust to remove debris from a new land trust property along the headwaters of Ivy Brook, near Providence Avenue.
In the individual category, George Waters was honored for cleaning up the banks of the Housatonic River by canoe and kayak year-round and for cleaning up around the Shelton Canal.
The committee also offered special recognition to the Housatonic River Cleanup Inc., whose efforts resulted in filling two 30-foot-long containers with trash from — and along — the river.
