Experienced motorists can lower their auto insurance costs while improving their driving skills by enrolling in AAA’s Driver Improvement Program (DIP). The free, four-hour class teaches the basics of defensive driving and provides current driving practice updates. A class will be offered Tuesday, March 10 from 4–8 p.m. at the Shelton Senior Center, 81 Wheeler St. It will be conducted by Shelton Police Sgt. Pete Zaksewicz and officer Mark Siglinger. To register, go to www.aaa.com and click on “Community Affairs” on the top menu bar or call 203-937-2595, ext. 4684. Fran Mayko, public affairs manager and DIP coordinator at the nonprofit AAA serving this area, said drivers over age 60 who take the class may qualify for a discount of up to 5% on their auto insurance, based on state law. To obtain discount, a driver must present their insurance company with a completion certificate from a state-approved class.
