Auditions for Inherit the Wind at Center Stage Theatre will take place Saturday, Feb. 1 from 10 a.m.-noon at the theater, 54 Grove St., Shelton. Director Gary Scarpa said the play requires a large cast of more than 20 actors, and he is seeking both experienced and inexperienced actors for the production. Inherit the Wind has a variety of roles for all ages, from major speaking parts to small speaking roles and non-speaking roles. \u201cIt is a great opportunity for those new to theater to get involved,\u201d Scarpa said. Candidates will be given a scene from the script to read at the audition. The play, by Jerome Lawrence and Robert Edwin Lee, is a fictionalized retelling of the famous 1925 \u201cMonkey Trial,\u201d in which science teacher John Scopes was tried and convicted for teaching Darwin\u2019s theory of evolution, violating a Tennessee law that forbade teaching any theory that conflicted with the Biblical conception of Divine Creation.
